They were all young Men - Americans belonging to various ^[[insertion]] N.E. [[/insertion]]states. [[strikethrough]] of [[/strikethrough]] Capt. Buddington gave them a bag of Sea Biscuit Beef & Pork - powder ^[[insertion]] caps  [[/insertion]] & Shot & a Chart. I added to their ammunition by giving them some powder & 500 Percussion Caps.
It was the purpose of ^[[insertion]] the [[/insertion]] one in Command to go to Hudson Bay. He asked if there were not settlements on the Southern part of it? To this I answered 'yes' but that it would be advisable to abandon that idea & go down the Labrador Coast till they fell in with the fishermen. I showed them the course they should take ^[[insertion]] in their desperate voyage [[strikethrough]] as I [[/strikethrough]][[/insertion]] [[underline]]  as I found [[/insertion]] no human power in way of advice [[strikethrough]] & an argument argument [[/strikethrough]] could alter them in their purpose! I took the chart & showed the course to Resolution Island Thence across Hudson Straits to Cape Chidley cautioning against getting into Ungava Bay as in this, there would be great

Their stay with us was about 2 hours It was a question with them whether to land to spend the night or go on. Our course was [[strikethrough]] wes [[/strikethrough]] westward (& under sail) or I doubt not they would have spent the night with us. They decided to continue on their voyage. then getting into their Boat they were all ready. I asked if they ^[[insertion]] were [[/insertion]] all Americans? With great [[strikethrough]] warmfth? [[/strikethrough]] warmth & national pride they [[strikethrough]] all [[/strikethrough]] exclaimed 'Thank God we are'! Thanking Capt. B & myself for our kindness & hospitality they started on their perilous voyage. My last words to them were 'God be with you & ever bless thee' I watched them eagerly as they pulled away upon their oars.
