all the men - some were smoking now & then but all pulling [[underlined]] unceasingly [[/underlined]] on the oars - The dipping of the ^[[insertion]] 5 [[/insertion]] oars by [[strikethrough]] each [[/strikethough]] ^[[insertion]] a[[/insertion]] crew is [[insertion]] always [[/insertion]] [[underlined]] simultaneous [[/underlined]] . How beautiful the view - a long line of boats before me [[strikethrough]] som [[/strikethrough]] with crews of strong arms, some dipping, some pulling, some lifting their long oars.
The [[underlined]] 'glorious scene' [[/underlined]] is the silver Clouds - the far extending bay - the quiet mirror water. The [[underlined]] 'sight of grandeur' [[/underlined]] is the [[underlined]] craggy mountains [[/underlined]] overhanging our heads - their peaks reaching up as if to kiss the [[strikethrough ]] stars[[/strikethrough]] clouds !

As I looked around ^[[insertion]] us[[/insertion]] & saw the surroundings of our anchorage, I was delighted .[[strikethrough]] with them [[/strikethrough]]. On three sides close by [[strikethrough]] are [[/strikethrough]] are stupendous mountains while in the distance across the Bay are hills, Islands and mountains.

On board are the wives of the [[strikethrough]] [[illegible]] [[/strikethrough]] Esquimaux who came with Mget Gardiner & Lamb. They are dressed in the peculiar costume of the West Land natives. I cannot but think of Old Grimes - that good old man & his long tailed coat. The especial difference in the coats of these Esquimaux women and [[insertion]] that of [[/insertion]] old Grimes, is that they do not button down [[underlined]] before [[/underlined]] [[strikethrough]] or any where else [[/strikethough]] In truth there is no button about these Arctic coats. They are slipped on over the head same as [[underlined]] any lady [[/underlined]] [[strikethrough]] would [[/strikethrough]] of the States would her S [[wavy line]] undergarments! Another marked feature is that each coat is made with a baby [[underlined]] pouch [[/underlined]] on the ^[[insertion]] neck & [[/insertion]] shoulders! [[strikethrough]] on ?[[/strikethrough]] More on this hereafter.
We found the "Black Eagle " a medium Clipper, & the "Rescue" in harbor.
