Saturday Aug. 11th

At 12 o'clock Barometer fell suddenly & gale followed soon after -  
At 10 O'Clock Capt. B. & I visited Capt. Allen of the Black Eagle.  Capt. B. tried [[strikethrough]] u [[/strikethrough]] successfully sculling the boat.  We were welcomed aboard by Capt. Allen  He took us around to inspect his vessel.  Cabin on deck - nearly new ship everything in complete order.  A Whale vessel equalling many fine residences in the States!  This ship now on its 3d Whaling voyage - never before North - Age of ship 8 years.

well protected for ice navigation.  Capt. A has on board Farm House ready for erection near [[Kemasurit?]] Island 14X16 feet to use on shore.  Will winter [[Kemisurit?]] - Ship 30 miles from House.  The house for the Boat's crews' use.  The Library case well filled with choice [[?]].  These loaned by the Bethel Church New London.  The Quarters of Capt Allen. A Sick Room!  Capt. Allen is a young man of noble qualities throughout - He is experienced in navigation in these Northern waters.  Has been 2d & lastly 1st Mates of Capt. B.  His teacher is A. No. One!
Capt. Allen neither smokes chews or drinks!  A strong healthy man.  He presented me with a Breach loading gun - a new one.  It has a bayonet - an accompaniment that I like.
A Boat load of Esquimaux & 2 Kayacks arrived to-day from where the Rescue obtained those it brought down.  There
