in low tides. For at least a [[foot]] in the North end of the strait between Unga and Popoff Islands after passing the sand spit, the only safe channel is in the range between the west end of the spit and the west end of Range Island at the north end of the strait.
There is a reef on each side.
After passing the point from which the Unga reef makes out, a little deeper water will be obtained by shearing a little to the westward still steering for the west end of Range Island and thus clearing the Olga reef, on which two vessels have struck at one time. The least water in this channel is five and a half fathoms at low tide. A small harbor is formed by the sand spit on the Popoff Island side.
