Monday Dec. 1. 1873
Morning. P.O. breakfast & office. Herendeen comes in and gets up books from vessel. Work over chart of Hog Island all the A.M. Go to Schumacher's room with him in P.M. & look at ethnological specimens. Dinner and in P.M. go to hear Italaian opera Un ballo in Maschera at Platts Stall with Miss Noyes

Tuesday Dec. 2
Morning cold. Down to breakfast & then to office. Finish Hog Id. chart 
Get pictures of E. Siberian tribes from Frost. Unpack boxes of collections. Write Packard. P.M. call on Raymond

Wednesday Dec 3
Morning raining hard. Engage Mr. Baker as mate for the vessel. [[Order?]] box for birds, pack them up & send to Band by Express. P.M. dine at Capt Noyes & call on the Brannans

Thursday Dec 4
Breakfast, call at Snook's. Up to office. Stearns comes in. Go down to the Academy with him and look over fossils then to office again. P.M. Go up to Mrs Otis' & attend a sociable at Mrs. Dr. Hastings' having a pleasant time.
