All the unemployed civilians are gone to Stikine for the Cassiar mines.  700 people are reported to have gone to those mines.  The traders here are not making expenses -  many of the shops are closed and very few skins come in.  Deer are obtained for $200, wood $200 a cord  from the natives. There are plenty of halibut, some Sebastes.  The herring were here about a week ago.  They say they can be got during the whole season at Hootznoo.  The 
salmon have not yet come.  The Shepnoff is in charge of the Ice [[?Cos]] fishery at Deep Lake rapids. 
No trouble with Indians but a small trader which went last fall to Cross Sound was taken in charge by natives though no injury was done.  No vessels here Cutter Reliance daily expected.  No vessels have arrived here yet. Come aboard to dinner - raining
