Friday May 8, 1874 Morning foggy with light rain squalls at intervals, wind light or more. Go ashore and fix position of the astronomical [[symbol - triangle]] with theod. & stabia. Call on Philippson, Father Nikolai, & Whitford. Send Bailey out dredging with the boat. Bring aboard canoe & spend some time cataloguing & arranging curios. Then pitch into dredgings which occupy my whole time till 9 P.M. Saturday May 9 Morning foggy, calm, heavy swell rolling in from the sea. Move the vessel to a more sheltered place. [[/strikethrough]]Go ashore + fix[[/strikethrough]] Spend the A.M. picking over dredgings. P.M. Mrs. Brooks, Cushing + Rodney come aboard with their husbands and stay for an hour or so. Finish dredgings and after supper go ashore for a while. Rains at intervals all day. Sunday May 10 Morning write letters. Father Nikolai comes aboard. After lunch go ashore & leave letters, then take a walk in the woods near the Indian River, getting a number of plants. Put them in press. P.M. with Maj.
