Friday May 22
Morning early very clear but very even clouds over calm or light airs.  Baker goes ashore to get altitudes on St. Elias.  Write a letter to go down by Capt. Phillips.  Tide turned flood at 1:37 P.M. Schooner Louisa Downes lost in 1868.  Go ashore & Take telemeter observations at low water on the reefs.  Baker & Noyes get magnetic azimuth, poor time with Kert O. & sextant, tolerable latitude, sext.  About 1 P.M. rains move steadily.  Work over chart of reefs in Norfolk Sound. I finish it.
Saturday, May 23
Morning raining hard with SE min. Work over plat of harbor and projection for coast line. Also review computations of magnetics.  About 2 P.M wind changes and it clears away, at five P.M hardly a cloud in the sky. Baker & Noyes go ashore and get vert. circle obs for time, sextant lunar obs. for times.  Theodolite astron. azimuth.  Later verticals on Mts Elias Fairweather &c with vert [[image - circle with dot in middle]] & horizontal angles on Mts. &c.
