Monday May 25.1874
Morning cloudy, but fair. Light northerly wind. About noon clears considerably. Afternoon pleasant. Morning take telemetric observations for shoreline, noon circummeridian altitudes with vertical [[symbol]] for latitude. P.M. sound the harbor & approaches. When done send Mr. Bailey dredging but the returns are very dry.
After supper trade for curios. Light till ten oclock.
Tuesday May 26
Morning cloudy, wind light northerly, at 7 A.M. weigh anchor and stand out of Port Mulgrave with a very light wind.  Get 22 fms close in under Cape Phipps. See a good deal of ice coming out of Disenchantment Bay. The table land on the the NW side of Bering Bay is principally debris from glaciers but the present ones seem to stop short near the bases of the Mts. The table land has a good deal of snow on it with a few trees here & there in small strips near

the water and small streams carving through the beach. Pass through a bank of fog in P.M. but clears entirely afterward. Wind fresher in P.M. Work over notes & sounding book. Sketch Elias
