A.M. Cloudy with a little rain Cutter Reliance comes in. They have been to St. Mathew & St Lawrence only. Go aboard & take  lunch with Elliott Maynard & Dr. Thacher, who in return come off and dine with [[?]] Bark  Frances Palmer comes in later in the day from St. Michaels & Goodnews Bay. Bean is on board, arrested for infringement of the revenue laws and Ketchum. Wind [[?]]

Friday. Aug.28.
Cloudy light variable wind & fog with a little rain. Elliott comes aboard & stays nearly all day. Write mother

Sunday Aug 30
Day cloudy A.M. clear for a short time, wind variable light. Attempt obs for time frustrated by clouds. Write letters in A.M. Dr. Thacher & Ketchum aboard to lunch. Capt. Lennan of the Sutton in the P.M. Get some hydrographic memoranda from him. A rock has been discovered in Popoff Strait. P.M. write & copy charts.

Monday Aug 31
Day stormy, foggy, rainy, strong wind & squalls form NE. Work over letter to U.S. Commissioners. Hein, Davidson &c. P.M. over vouchers &c to resent by the Reliance.

Tuesday Sept 1
Morning. working over reports & journals. Cloudy, some fog. wind moderate. P.M. running shore line on the west side of Captains Bay.

Wednesday Sept. 2
Rainy & squally in A.M. Cloudy P.M. very strong SW wind. Capt. Baker & Col. Wood come aboard P.M. go aboard the cutter.
