[[underlined]] Arctia arge [[/underlined]] on a stone at 113th St New York Dec. 17, 1893 Velvety black, a broad even d. [[image - triangle]] s-d pinkish stripe Warts large, dull black, normal. Hair not very bristly, rather scant black [[circled]] 1 [[/circled]] - [[circled]] 4 [[/circled]], foxy red [[circled]] 5 [[/circled]] [[circled]] 6 [[/circled]] [[insertion]] [[circled]] 7 [[/circled]] [[circled]] 8 [[/circled]] [[/insertion]]. S-V slight, [[intensly?]] [[pinkish?]] streaks Hd 2 tho feet black abd. pale W. hd 3.5 mm. labium whitish. The broad stripes are quite even, but narrow a little towards the ends and (especially the s-d, above [[circled]] 3 [[/circled]]) do not quite reach the ends. Post hairs from 12-13 much longer than the others. The hair is thin, not at all obscuring the bright markings (Described Dec 23)
Eggs from Dr. O. Seifert May 20 1897 Rounded conical flat at base, adherent; white chalky, a cleaner yellowish spot at apex. Reticulation narrowly linear rounded hexagonal regular, fairly distinct no hollows. Surface between shagreened. [[underlined]] Perophora melsheimerii [[/underlined]]. Alcohol Dr. Packards specimen. (ex. Jan 8, 1894) Hd large, round, granular, only 1 c-sh, normal, large, covering 2 dorsally. Body all granular like Sphinx. Feet normal, abd ones very short. Spiracle on 12 higher up than the others. Anal pl. very large, covering feet, continuous with a hardened area on 12 post. bounded in front by a [[trans?]] elevated fold. Setae finely short, very obscure, apparently normal. Certainly 2 s-v and [[circled]] 1 [[/circled]] 12 seems not to be median, though there is a slight prominence centrally on 12 at the apex of the transverse fold.
