23rd Sept. 1942.

A fine day with a few heavy showers, with a low & still falling glass, after a very bad week-end of wind & rain; cooler. Took bus to Ballyboden & walked to Rockbrook & then through fields E. of river to sandpit at foot of road from [[Glendsheen?]], Co. DU. In sandpit found nest of Myrmica laevinodis & brought home a de-alated queen & some workers. Did not otherwise collect. Then walked up nearly to bridge in "Pine Forest" & back to bus at Rathfarnham.

27th Sept. 1942.

A beautiful day, nearly all sunny till 4 p.m., but with very strong E. wind, sufficient to rain white-horses in upper lake in Glenasmole, after much bad weather, which suddenly ended in a frosty night on night of 25th-26th & a clear cold sunny day on 26th. Hail & melted snow fell on 25th in Dublin & snow on Kippure on same day (fide Mrs. Moore!).

Rode on bikes to head of upper reservoir, in Glenasmole, Co. DU., arriving there at noon, then walked up to about 900 ft. on Slade Brook
