21.

17th Oct. 1942

A dull humid day, very mild, with strong S.W. wind & misty rain for most of afternoon.

In forenoon walked up glen, 2 1/2 miles, to beyond the old mine & back for lunch: did not collect.

In afternoon went down right bank of river to glen at foot of Drumgoff Brook, only to find that since I was here last (in May 1940) the forestry dept. had taken over & planted the whole area as far as the Ballycor estate boundary: collected some insects along Aughavannagh road behind barracks & many in glen during the drizzle but ground vegetation too wet to sweep; many taken with sucker off basin of oak, &c.

Glen at foot of Drumgoff Brook on S. side of Glenmalure, Co. WI. 3.30-4.30 PM.
