21st, 22nd, 23rd, Oct. (1942)

All three wet, almost continuously so, with strong S.W. wind & driving misty rain on 21st & 22nd; 23rd calm in morning with heavy wet misty rain, midday clear & fine, but SW wind & misty rain again in afternoon. All forms of collecting quite impossible.

24th Oct, 1942.

A fine bracing day, mainly sunny with strong cold SW gale, very unlike the previous days but equally useless for collecting.

In forenoon walked very nearly to Greenan & home for lunch. In afternoon walked up the old lead mine, 1/2 mile, above Carrowystick Brook & went up zigzag path to main adit on (N. side of valley) to see if any bats slept there, but found adit deep in water & a small stream flowing out, so returned to afternoon tea at 5 P.M. So ended this day!
