43.

25th Nov. 1942.

A dull dry day with not a breath of wind, similar to several preceding days; barometer over 30 for previous week & no frost at night and no sun during day for several days. A damp mist the previous night had left everything in the open dripping, but here & there under trees sweeping just possible. Went by 1.45 bus to Old Bawn and walked up to upper dam in Glenasmole, where swept under trees on right bank of Dodder between footbridge and ford & under to Cotoneaster frigida at W. end of upper dams & a few other spots on way back to Moore's house. In these places took in all 18 hymenoptera, but only Cynipids common.

29th Nov. 1942.

A fine, but mainly dull day, cool with W. breeze, glass falling since 25th inst.

In afternoon walked from Rathfarnham to Firhouse, across Dodder to Balrothery, then home via Willington House. By the Poddle near Willington House saw several wasps (V. vulgaris) at ivy.
