Chalcids 2: 1 mounted a ♀︎ with rough hairy body & long terebra & queer stigma; superficially like a Megastigmus =

21st June 1943.
A fine warm day, with strong SW. breeze.
On this day a ♀︎ Bombus lucorum came into my room in the Museum through the N. window. Could this have been a young queen? I can't say?

22nd June 1943.
Warm with strong SW wind; very gloomy in forenoon, but sunny & very hot in afternoon, with one slight shower at 4 P.M. at Lucan. Saw first ♂︎ Bombus (B. lucorum) at 6.30 P.M. in Thyme in front garden of 14 Clareville Rd. Harold's Cross, DU.

22nd June 1942.

For weather see last page!

As the day brightened & wind fell somewhat, we, all three (George being on his first leave from R.A.F.!), went by 2.20 bus to Lucan & spent afternoon in the "Sarsfield" demesne, once again available to the public on payment of 6d. Swept along avenue beside river from the private area round the house to a little above the weir, most of the sweeping being done along the river, but some also between the avenue & the boundary wall. Filled two suckers, one on lower part of journey up river, the other on upper part; did not collect on return. Returned by 5.25 bus from Lucan!

1 = Lower part of demesne passed through: see above.
2 = Upper part: see above.

Lucan Demesne, Co. DU.

Aphelopus ♂︎.
Aculeates not looked for & sandpit not visited & the only one of interest seen was a ♂︎ Hylaeus (no doubt H. communis, which lit on George's hand).
Arge ciliaris ♀︎ on Cowparsnip at 2.
Tenthredo "arcuatus" ♀︎♀︎ common.
Athalia 1♂︎ seen.

[Black & yellow sawfly-like hymenopteron seen at 2 on Scrophularia by river a bit above weir, but could have been an Ichneumon]
