29th August 1943. 

After a depression, but calm night, heavy rain at 8:30 AM., clearing at 9, so went (alone) to Leixlip, leaving home in hot sun & strong SW. wind at 10:35.;  no sun after noon;  reached Louisa Bridge on Royal Canal, Co KD.  Collected by sweeping along W. side of turnip-wheat field, between canal & Maynooth road, from arrival till 2 P.M. although vegetation rather wet, but then heavy rain came on in arrival of a secondary depression from SW.  After lunch taken under lee of bridge, rode home.

Swept along grassy edge (W. side of field) or amongst weeds in carrot patch on edge of turnips.

Bombus sylvarum  ♂︎♂︎ & ♀︎♀︎. Several seen on knapweed &c. just before rain came on!
