2nd Sept. 1943. 

A fine day with much hot sun but strong cool SW-W wind & some showers in early afternoon, but none at Lucan: cooler than for some time after some very hot broken weather with much rain.

In afternoon rode to Lucan demesne & collected there from 4 till after 6 P.M.  Rather windy in places, wet in others but some common insects very abundant, in fact too common

Lucan demesne, Co. DU.

Swept in 4 areas as follows:-
1 = Just above barrier on river walk, for 100 yards & between walk & river
2 = same place but side of walk away from river.
3 = both sides of walk just below barrier & under large oak trees, &c.
4 = just below gateway on main avenue near water turbine, under beech trees, where many seedling Sycamore, Ash, &c., & along river at same place
