Dear Dr. Buechner:

Thank you for a copy of Dr. Tyson's letter addressed to you. I can visualize the situation there in Korea. With some odd reason person who make trouble seem to be always same ones. I hope I will be in the position to take of all these confusions and misunderstandings in Korea.

After receiving information concerning the permit of temporary visit to Korea from Consul general in San Francisco, Calif., I have realized that I might have some "red-tapes" when I leave Korea to return home to the United States. In order to safeguard my plan and the date of departure from Korea, I should have a word of guarentee from the Korean authorities (either Korean consul or embassy)that they will safeguard the date of departure as stated in my schedule from Korea. I learned that there are several ways of doing this. The best way is to change the address in my old passport to the present address in the United States that makes me a Korean oversea resident. As being a Korean oversea resident the Korean government shall unlikely impose on me much "red-tapes", I was told. In order to do this I will have to re-apply the issuance of new passport containing my address and permanent residence in the United States from Korean embassy or consul. I feel that it will probably take a month or even more in order to get my new passport issued from Korean consul general in San Francisco, Calif. For this reason I decided to apply my passport to Korean Embassy in D.C. through the authority of the Smithsonian Institution. I figure this will be the fastest way of getting the work done. I do not know yet whether I shall have to have a permit of temporary visit to Korea in addition to new passport. I have written to a friend of mine in Korean Embassy about the matter. I hope I will hear from him soon. At any rate I will bring "all works" for passports and Korean visa for my son who has a U.S. passport with me when I go to Washington, D.C. I hope you will help me in this matter through the travel and passport section of the Smithsonian.

Is there any allowance for expenses brought about from passport and visa ? If you have any allowance for this type of expenses in the Smithsonian, I will be grateful.
