Dear Dr. Kim:

This letter is to confirm that you will be employed by the Smithsonian Institution during the month of January 1967 to serve as a consultant in Korea. The purpose of your mission to Korea is as follows:

1. Determine the potential role of the cooperative program of research in ecosystem ecology between the Smithsonian Institution and Seoul National University in the long-range development of a national science program of significance to the management of natural resources in the economy of Korea.

2. Provide recommendations on the organizational structure for implementing an effective research and educational program over a period of 25 years in ecosystem ecology in Korea.

3. To advise Korean scientists on preparation of their research projects for a 5-year program of ecological research and to assist in the development of unifying themes for the overall program.

Your consultant services are a part of a cooperative program between the Smithsonian Institution and Seoul National University entitled "Ecological Study in Korea." A copy of the signed contract under which you will carry out your mission is enclosed.
