Assistant Director for Ecology,

Smithonian Institution,

Dear Dr. Buechner:

Thank you for your letter of October 26th. It was great pleasure to have an opportunity to discuss on DMZ research and the program for the reconstruction of Science Museum. I hope that these important works will be accomplished very soon.

I welcome Dr. Ke Chung Kim's who was my former student, visit to Korea and I think his visit will be a great help in many ways. A few days ago I received a letter from him and I answered that I welcome his 1-month visit to Korea. I think much attention should be paid to various things for this work because for the coming 5-year-plan is much more important than this.

I also think that you received letters from Dr. Tyson, but actually we had established all the plans for research work in actumn season and were wating for the arrival of budget, but I did not get any information about this. So I was going to perform survey work (2 areas on the east on November 3rd, 2 areas on the west on November 7th) with the money required for this survey work which I myself borrowed, but as you know in the news paper or other information, quite lately of some of north communist army invaded DMZ area and killed many U. S. soldiers and Korean. Then this matter has not completely solved yet, so I decided to postpone this survey plan a little. I beleave, meanwhile, the budget will be arrived here, so this postponing may be rather convenient, but I am just afraid whether we can perform this survey well or not because the wether is getting colder and colder here.

Sincerely yours,
