Dr. S. Dillon Ripley
Sectretary
Smithsonian Institution
Washington 25, D. C.
United States of America

Dear Dr. Ripley:

It is with a great pleasure to write this letter to you and to express my deep appreciation for your interest in the development of the Korean National Science Museum Center. A group of distinguished museum specialists from the United States, who have a keen interest for the development of this Korean National Science Museum Center, have visited Korea and meeting with them has been very successful.

This letter will convey to you our great interest in this project. Dr. Coolidge, Dr. Taylor and Mr. Patterson had occasions visiting the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea and the Office of the Prime Minister. I want you to know that both His Excellency Park, Chung Hee, the President and His Excellency Chung, Il Kwon, the Prime Minister, showed a deep concern and interest toward this project and felt that such Science Museum Center is vital for Korea and expect the success of the project.

At the close of the meeting, I was informed that Dr. Frank Taylor will draft a proposal requesting funds in support of the Planning Study based on the Consensus Report of the Conference to Initiate Planning for the Development of the Korean National Science Museum Center. After review and approval by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea, the proposal will be used to seek support for the Planning Study from appropriate granting agencies and foundations.

The Planning Study will be conducted in Korea by an appropriate working Committee or Board appointed by the Minister of Education with the assistance of qualified museum specialists sent to Korea from the United States.

I would like to request to you Mr. Patterson's assistance in heading the American team of specialists, and in coordinating the work and interests of various participants in the Planning Study. This is essential if he is to free himself of present duties in order to raise needed funds and organize American support.

I thank you once again for your cooperation and look forward the success of this project.

Most sincerely yours,
