Dear Hal,

Just a short note to inform you that I went over to talk with Commander Pace about transportation. We went in to see Col. Griffin and discussed the situation further, but really got no place. Except they will take us out to our work site from time to time if we can plan about a week in advance. Perhaps this can be arranged when I get settled and all. Time will tell. Then we went over the new Status of Forces that is due to go into effect pretty soon and they pointed out that we should add the statement that I wired to Dr. Savely's office through Col. Curtis. This must be written into the contract or grant. By so doing we can bring in cars duty free and be able to buy gas and have garage work don at the PX garage on a reimbersable basis. Also Smithsonian people will be able to get most of the PX privledges as military personnel. This applies only to U.S. Citizens employed in Korea. For example, I do not think Dr. Kim could be included as a Smithsonian employee with these privledges.

How are things going at your end of the line on securing the cars in Japan? Perhaps we can have someone purchase the vehicles in Japan and ship them directly to us here.

Dr. Kang is gradually getting things set up pretty good here for an office. He has assigned a secretary, a girl that has just returned from W^[[o]]orster College in Boston. I think she may be pretty good, at least she can speak English. He has assigned me an assistant --- a fly taxonomist--- [[strikethrough]] or at least [[/strikethrough]] a student that in interest in that field. The office is ample but I think it will be cold.

I looked at two or three houses today but did not decide right away to take one of them. We will be off for looking at more houses tomorrow morning. Wish us luck.

I have really missed being with all of you. Anytime anyone is passing through this part of the world please have them [[strikethrough]] to [[/strikethrough]] stop by for a short visit.

Sincerely,
