AIR MAIL

Dr. Edwin L. Tyson
c/o U. S. Embassy
Seoul, Korea

Dear Ed:

You will be receiving, probably in the same mail with this letter, authorization to act as contractor for the Smithsonian Institution to purchase the Toyota vehicles along with a check for $5,200. Since the contract is not yet signed between the Air Force Office of Scientific Research and the Smithsonian Institution, please do not surrender the check until I cable you that the contract has been signed. Meanwhile, I hope that you will be able to begin negotiations with the military for procurement of the vehicles with a minimum of delay.

Mr. Hurlbut has communicated our recommendation on the purchase and amortization of the vehicles, together with other points of clarification for the contract, and I see no reason why the contract should not be signed and put into effect prior to the 15th of October.

With best wishes.

Sincerely Yours,

Helmut K. Buechner
