PRELIMINARY PROPOSALS FOR DMZ STUDY GROUP

WEATHER

1. Establish standard weather stations on each of the major study areas including measurements on temperature, relative humidity, rainfall, wind velocity and direction.

2. Establish weather stations at stragetic locations on all slopes in the mountains and study the effects of the mountains on weather modification.

3. Study detailed rainfall patterns over small areas in both the mountains and lowlands in areas where stream flow studies are being carried out.

4. Determine the relationship between rainfall, temperature, slope, etc. on the distribution of plants and animals.

GEOLOGY

1. Make geological map of area immediately south of the DMZ.

2. Determine water transport of mineral substances and sedimentary rates within and outside the DMZ in conjunction with stream flow and limnological studies.

3. Study the effects of geological formations on the abundance of plants and animals.

4. Study weathering of rooks, both chemical and biological, and determine the chemical content of the soils produced.

WATER

1. Study stream flow in relation to vegetation cover, slope, rainfall, etc. both inside and out of the DMZ.

2. Make limnological studies in comparable streams both inside and out of the DMZ, on the east and west coast, in the mountains and in the lowland.

3. Study the water table in relation to vegetation development and animal populations, especially on abandoned rice paddies.

4. Study changes in stream biota following forest fires, excess use of agricultural chemicals, etc.
