Dear Hal,

We finally got the film for the DMZ shot. But I am not at all proud of it [[strikethrough]] at all [[/strikethrough]]. The time for the shooting came at the most critical time of the year as far as NBC is concerned. There was only one NBC man in town--Gaffe--and he [[strikethrough]]was [[/strikethrough]] ^[[is]] not a photographer. All the people were in SE Asia covering President Johnson's visit and the Manila conference. All the help I got from them was that they hired a local photographer that could not speak English and a car. I don't have any idea that I am much of a producer, especially since we had only three (3) hours of work time after going through all the red tape of getting [[strikethrough]] in[[/strikethrough]]to the DMZ. We got many of the shot I wanted but not near all needed. NBC say they cannot spare even the photographer anymore until President Johnson's trip here, so they are sending in all that we have. I am sending you a shot sheet and the full name of all the actors. Last year NBC shot some movies of the DMZ that perhaps you could draw on if this we are sending in is not enough. Perhaps you could get some deer or pheasant shots from NBC too. Here's hoping for the best. I think you and Dr. Fosberg and Talbert can make a pretty good story on what we have.

Enclosed is a list, complete name, and address of all the people that will be working on the DMZ project. Thought you might like to have this. Cmdr. Pace needs it for passes. Later the drivers will be added. ^[[I got this yesterday-first tried in September.]]

I am still unable to do anything about buying the cars because we do not have a contract in hand. Even I f I could order them today it will be January before we can hope to get them. ^[[I have the $5200 check.]]

Tomorrow I am going to the DMZ area with the medical people from Japan for about five days. We will be collection snails beginning on the west coast and working across the country. At least I will get a pretty good story on them. The man I will go with is a Michigan man who is a snail specialist on snails in Japan, Dr. Boles I think. He has made arrangements for billiting with army units across the country. They also have a ectoparasite man here too--at least he is a collector.

Dr. Kang says the DMZ crew will go to the field on November 3. I have been trying to get a list of names of those that are going for two weeks with no success. Today is the last day that Commander pace will request transportation, but no list of names. I be dam if I know how to get the thing, it is most frustrating.

Sincerely,

^[[Ed]]
