marked out on the form, and I am not sure just what Personal Service Contracts means. Some notes following this are illegible. Now on the note from Mr. Babcock. I expected from the beginning that the per ^[[/]] diem does help to ^[[/]] have the 25% foreign differential listed as a cost of living allowance. Any way, I can't complain about any of this. So far I have not received any expense money. Perhaps they are deducting the $500 advance from the first checks? Thanks, for all the photos. I showed them around, then gave a coy of each, including mine, to Dr. Kang. In my comments above about D [[strikethrough]] t [[/strikethrough]] ^[[r]]. Kim and the procrastination over here, I was not meaning to imply that we would not be any help, I mearly hope he has not forgotten things that I am sure he knew several years ago. In fact, I do not see how we can really do without someone like him. He would probably be a natural to work for the SI here during the five year program, or ^[[/]] even longer if the program continues. The additional 6 month period of support might be a good idea if it can be arrange, then, we will have perhaps more field data to go with the 5-year proposal. Would you please give Dr. Kim a list of the proposed projects which I sent you. The only way I can get him one here is to type it ove. Thanks for the "Environment of Cape Thompson Region, Alaska."

Just yesterday I got a letter from Dr. Davis in Japan. He said he had discussed our project with the R & D people in Japan. They sent me one project application form. Right now I am in a quandary as just who to approach. Perhaps Dr. Lee Yung No, the plant taxonomist who wrote the [[underlined]] Grasses of Korea [[/underlined]] would be the best prospect to work on an independent research. At least he shows signs of getting things done. He is I ^[[n]] a different school and not under the thumb of Dr. Kang and may have more time unmolested by meetings and such things, and can plan his own way of going about it. I will think about it sometimes more before doing anything. Please comment on this and give me your ideas. I most certainly do not wish to help someone that the Army is doing to ^[[/]] reject. This may be a bad precedent at this time, and this program could add considerably to our overall project. Col. Tipton said he could lend his support for working on the mammals, but I have my doubts about the only mammologist, Dr. Won. Perhaps he is a good man, but my inability to communicate may contribute ^[[/]] materially to my opinion.

Col. Tipton is buying 200 mouse and rat trans for our use. There are live traps. I would like to have about 105 or 200 snap traps, perhaps the Museum Specials that the Mammal Division uses. Could you see if you could get these for me? On the market here I can find the little mouse and hugh rat traps, but no intermediate sizes are available.

Aura and little Louis are getting along fine. Last Sunday we had about three inches of snow. OI do not know which one was the most excited. As for my part, I do not care if I never see any more of the stuff. All of us are getting along over the cold ^[[s]] which we had in September, up this year for he first time in years. I do not know if it is the unusually cold weather, 10 degrees herein Seoul, or it is just one of those unpredictable things.

Give my regards to the people whom I know in SI, and especially to the family. Sorry I never got to meet Nancy again. I still think of her as a bashful ^[[little]] 5-year old.

Sincerely,
^[[Ed]]
