The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) in Korea provides a unique opportunity to study an ecological baseline that has been developing for 13 years.  By comparing the dramatic changes in vegetation, animal life, and the physical environment occurring within the DMZ with areas heavily influenced by man, ecological principles an be investigated. During this first year of a contemplated long-range program, emphasis will be placed on the [[strikethrough]] preparation of a 5-year plan, which plan is to be based [[/strikethrough]]] on preliminary field surveys and on the integration of ideas from both U.S. and Korean scientists.
