PRESENT STATUS OF WILDLIFE CONSERVATION IN KOREA

I.  [[underlined]] Legislation and Administration [[/underlined]]

In Korea the MOAF holds the primary responsibility for legislation and administration of wildlife conservation.  We have game law and hunting regulation under the supervision of the MOAF.  Hunting is permitted only for extremely limited game and period of open season is also very short.  The Forestry Bureau, MOAF, which takes charge of the game administration, carries out an annual census on game animal, though in an insignificant and small way.  The Wildlife Protection Committee organized as an advisory body to the Wildlife Protection Committee organized as an advisory body to the Forestry Bureau, MOAF, studies and discusses the pertinent matter and make recommendations to the government authorities concerned.  We have cultural property ^[[preservation]] management law under the supervision of the MOE and valued wild animal, plant and caves etc. are desig^[[n]]ated and given a due protection.  The Cultural Property Preservation Bureau, MOE carries out an annual survey on natural monuments, though in an insignificant and small way.  The Cultural Property and Preservation Committee was organized within the Cultural Property Preservation Bureau as its consultative body and the committee discusses the related matter, making recommendations to the government.  Under the initiative of Science Museum, MOE, an advisory body will soon be formed to help facilitate the concerned affairs and its establishment is to be proclaimed by Presidential decree.
