Beside, as a private body concerned in conservation, Korean Commission for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources was organized 24 Dec. 1963 by our zoologists, botanists, and geologists.  The commission takes charge of various scientific research activities and general enlightenment work for the better nature conservation in Korea.

II.  [[underlined]] Nature Reserves Established for Scientific, Educational or Recreational Purposes [[/underlined]]

The Cultural Property Preservation Bureau, MOE has designated already two nature reserve area and one more is currently under study.  They are as follows:

(2) Hong-Do Islet, west coast nature reserve | 1,413 acres | Apr. 7, 1965

Among these three areas, (1) and (3) are fairly heavy natural forest areas that they particularly are in need of conservation efforts.
