April 21, 1966

Dr. Harold J. Coolidge
National Academy of Sciences
2101 Constitution Avenue,
Washington 25, D. C., U.S.A.

Dear Dr. Coolidge:

Thank you for your letter of March 21, 1966. In a few days I will be able to get passport from the ministry of foreign affairs, and for this your letter and Miss Harvey's letter, which certifies that I am invited to Michigan short course and others in the United States of America, were of great help. I am in contact with Miss Harvey for my travel schedule and plane reservation so that I can reach Detroit in the morning of May 8th.

We established the practical plan (for 4 months from April to July) for the research on DMZ, and for this work we, together with Miss Harvey, are in contact with Eighth U. S. Army. The first survey is to be performed in the western part under Eighth U.S. Army's control from April 26 to 29th. The data from this survey will be brought to the meeting of the Pacific Science Congress to be held this coming August in Japan.

I give you my hearty thanks for your great help for our participants in this meeting. As I told you in my previous letter a committee was established in the National Academy of Science in Korea and our government recently began to understand this matter and the Minister, the ministry of Education, seems to have asked USOM, Asia Foundation and Economic Planning Board of our government for help, but not yet any definite decision has been made up to day. I have not received till now "the formal invitation letter" that you said you separately mailed on March 21st.

Now I have not so many days to be here in Korea and so if you have anything more to let me know for my travel, please send me in detail as soon as possible. I feel uneasy about whether I have only to arrive at the University of Michigan with the ticket from the Embassy of the United States of America. I shall look forward to your early reply.

My best wishes to you and your family.

Sincerely yours,
