Dear Hal: Thank you for the invitation to the Conference on Avifauna of Latin America. I am sorry to say that I probably cannot be there except for the Opening morning session on Wednesday, 13 April. Perhaps you could list me as a part time observer, and I would enjoy lunching with the group on the 13th. We have at last received word that Professor Kang's grant from the State Department in an amount slightly over**^[[X]] $1,000 to cover the round trip ticket to this country. From the information we have the additional amount needed to convert this to a round the world ticket will be $359.30. I am still faced with the problem of finding funds to pay the $600 fee to cover Professor Kang's participation in the Michigan course, but except for that I believe the arrangements you and I have worked out will take care of him. Kang has asked me to let him know whether, in our opinion, the investigators should carry out research on a number of different areas of the DMZ, or whether they should concentrate initially on a single area. All this will be clarified in the plans to be drawn up at the time of his visit here, but he would like our thoughts so that his colleagues could be working during the two months he will be away from Korea. My thought is that they should try and do as intensive a job as possible on the most promising areas that is accessible to them, rather than risk working in several localities where they might run into difficulties with the military who might not be sympathetic with their activities. With best wishes. Sincerely yours, [[signed]]Hal[[signed]] Harold J. Coolidge ^[[X]][[framed]]$1057 to be exact.[[/framed]]
