4) Locations to be studied:
A preliminary survey of DMZ was performed from December 20 to December 22 in 1965. Then DMZ is a restricted area and we could survey only the areas in the vicinity of southern boundary. Many of these areas surveyed were destroyed by fire according to military operation, but some of these are well conserved. Therefore we selected these areas for this present research. (See figure)
a. Punch-uk-kol (38°55';126°40')
The nature and natural resources of this area are well conserved though there used to be houses and dry fields and paddy fields.
b. Myojang-dong (38°17';127°10')
Once this area was completely destroyed because of serious combat. But now its nature and natural resources are well conserved.
*Besides these two areas mentioned above the following two areas of the eastern part (of Korea) were selected.
c. Injac (punch bowl)
d. Hyang-no-bong
5) Necessary items for investigation:
a. Most of these selected areas except narrow paths are minefield. So, when necessary, this mine must be removed for collection of research-materials. Moreover these areas are near the enemy, and safety problem must be considered.
b. The use of hunting gun is prohibited in these areas, and this (the use of hunting gun) must be permitted for collecting big animals.
