Project II

1) Title:
Basic investigation for establishment of national park in Korea.
2) Purpose:
We selected 3 areas for the establishment of national park, but the basic investigation of these areas has not been made yet. Therefore an immediate study on these areas if desirable for conservation of these areas.
3) Locations to be studied: (See figure)
a. Mt. Sorak
This mountain, located in the eastern part of central Korea, has abundant fauna and flora and is a boundary between south Korea and north Korea in the distribution of flora. Especially its nature is beautiful and so it is considered to be a promising area for national park.
b. Hongdo Island
This island is famous for its beautiful scenery and its nature and natural resources have been well conserved because this island is located far from the main land.
c. Chejudo (Quelpart) Island
In this island, located on the south end of Korea, the highest mountain (1950 m) in South Korea is situated. Flora and fauna of this island are different from those of mainland and this island has abundant flora and fauna including tropical ones.
