Doris Holmes Blake - Correspondence with Lucy Wentworth Holmes, April - September 1951

About the Project

Personal correspondence reveals a lot about an individual—but because it is from their singular perspective, it might not give an unrelated or unfamiliar reader a full picture of their life. In this last installment of correspondence between Doris Holmes Blake and her mother, Lucy Wentworth Holmes, Lucy's life comes to a close. An obituary included with these letters is clear evidence of the esteem which the local community held her in, noting as well that she had been 96 at the time of her decease. How much change must she have seen in her lifetime! Could she have imagined what was to come in another seventy years? Join your fellow volunpeers in this last look at the life of Lucy Wentworth Holmes.
