now remains in the ceiling which they fired through the window, broke the palings &c. My house in on the lot adjoining the school house, I was awakened by the crash of glass, yelling, & firing of pistols. I went to the window not knowing but I should be attacked next. I understand one of Mr. Horners students had threatened to "smash in my windows soon as Horners school broke" Some things are rather significant. Mr. Hargrove has recently come over to the republican party. He was at Raleigh attending to his duties as a member of the Legislature, his wife, a little girl & colored woman were alone, the same with myself, yet these two were the only places where they troubled seriously.
