a hundred & 34 men aboard & going to Punta Arenas. Yes I practically invited myself though I knew it was impossible this year. But they were too crowded to take me on. They are running a series of about 12 transverse sections across the south Atlantic and will with this trip have made all in the southern half and beginning next work up toward Rio & the equator section. If we build a new vessel in the States they could learn a lot from the Meteor, & think, they are equipped for anchoring in 6-7,000 fathoms of water, to the better maintain their station in making observations. Though I missed Stanley Kemp & his expedition I did meet one equally important and between that and the specimens I have borrowed & taken in exchange at B.A. I have had a wonderfully profitable trip after all. Its too bad I wrote so many disappointments in my diary because, the returns
