July, 1919, he has provided $6,000 for work in Australia, together with the unused balance from his previous operations in Borneo and the Celebes, which was transferred to the Australian expedition.  Altogether this generous collaborator has contributed $27,000 in this work.  Two important collections have been received recently; one of mammals, birds and reptiles from Siam, Annam and Cochinchina, a joint contribution from Dr. Abbott and Mr. C. B. Kloss who collected most of the material; the other from South Australia collected by Mr. Chas. M. Hoy.  Dr. Abbott personally collected 87 birds specimens in Haiti and presented them to the National Museum.

[[underlined]] Far East Expedition. [[/underlined]]  This expedition was financed by the Rockefeller Foundation in the sum of $2,500.  Early in 1920 Dr. Ales Hrdlicka proceeded to Japan and China, to make anatomical comparisons with natives of those countries, the expense of which was $1,806.38, leaving a balance still in the hands of the Institution of $693.62.

[[underlined]] Canadian Expedition. [[/underlined]]  The Secretary mentioned briefly his geological work during the past summer in Alberta, Canada, in connection with the Upper Cambrian formation of that region.

NEW BUSINESS.

[[underlined]] Freer Estate Matters. [[/underlined]]

[[underlined]] Appropriation of income of estate. [[/underlined]]  The late Charles L. Freer, of Detroit, Michigan, bequeathed to the Smithsonian Institution in his last will and testament and first codicil thereto, - in addition to art collections and funds for the erection of an art building, given previously to his decease - certain other collections and securities.  The income from the latter is to be used by the Regents of the Smithsonian Institution in accordance with the provisions of the testator in the following four (4) items:
