I will bring the matter up at the annual meeting of the Board of Regents, but as the Appropriations Committee is now giving more or less consideration to the Budget, I think it would be wise to have them give serious consideration to the Smithsonian interest matter before it is incorporated in the bill and reported to the House.

Sincerely yours,

C. D. Walcott.

Regent of the Smithsonian Institution,
United States Senate,

UNITED STATES SENATE

November 7, 1921.

My dear Dr. Walcott:

I have received your letter of the 3d together with the copies of your correspondence with Mr. Madden, and I shall of course be very glad to talk with him about the situation.

Sincerely yours,

H. C. LODGE

Dear Judge Gray:

I am sending you herewith a copy of a letter from Mr. Madden, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, and also of my reply thereto.

I think that the matter had better be considered by the Executive Committee prior to the meeting of the Board of Regents on December 8, and a report made to the Board.
