[[underlined]] Comments on the above [[/underlined]].

[[underlined]] International Exchanges [[/underlined]].- ($45,000.)  This is entirely for the exchange of publications (mostly Government) between the United States and foreign countries.

[[underlined]] Bureau of American Ethnology [[/underlined]].- ($44,000.)  This is for the investigation and study of North American aborigines, continuing ethnological researches among the American Indians and the natives of Hawaii, including the excavation and preservation of archeological remains.

[[underlined]] International Catalogue of Scientific Literature [[/underlined]].- ($7,500.)  This appropriation is for the purpose of cataloguing American scientific literature for the previous year for publication, in collaboration with other countries, of the catalogue of the scientific literature of the world.

[[underlined]] Astrophysical Observatory [[/underlined]].- ($15,500.)  The principal work of the Astrophysical Observatory at the present time is the study of the sun for the purpose of obtaining the data upon which to predict climatic changes resulting from variations in the intensity of radiation of heat from the sun.  This work has been supplemented the past year by observations made at a small observatory near Calama, Chile, where two trained observers are sustained by an appropriation from the Hodgkins Fund and gifts from a friend of the work.

[[underlined]] National Museum [[/underlined]].- ($418,120.)  The items of the appropriation under this heading are self-explanatory. Research work is carried on by the scientific personnel in the preservation, study and labeling of the collections.
