[[preprinted left margin]] for next year's work must be able to measure the billionth of a degree or better. Dr. Abbot believes it possible to do this, and even more. The regular solar radiation observations at Mount Harqua Hala, Arizona, and Mount Montezuma, Chile, continue to be highly satisfactory. The agreement between the daily determinations of the sun's heat outside the atmosphere reported from these two stations, so far apart on opposite sides of the equator, is remarkable. Their average difference is less than a half of one per cent. Both stations agree to indicate that the solar output has been below normal for over a year, but is now nearly up to normal. Johansen). Mrs. Johansen was not able to go abroad at the time the other artists went, and therefore this portrait is but lately completed. It is donated through the National Art Committee, by the City of New York. Four paintings were received by bequest of George H. Story: Portrait of "A Lady" and Portrait of John Head, by Gilbert Stuart; panel by Eugene Delacroix; "The Storm" by Ludwick (Ludolf) Backhuysen. Two paintings by Sarah Paxton Ball Dodson (1847-1906): "Wild Parsley," painted at Belvedere, Brighton, England, being a study for the foreground of "The Annunciation" in the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia; and "Une Martyre (Saint Thecla)", exhibited in the Paris and Munich Salons of 1891, were the gift of Richard Ball Dodson, Brighton, England. The Gallery has lent thirty paintings by contemporary American artists, largely from the William T. Evans Collection, to the american Federation of Arts for its traveling exhibitions during the coming season. These paintings [[initialed]] CDW [[/initialed]]
