REPORT OF THE SPECIAL COMMITTEE.

The Committee created by a resolution of the Board, adopted December 9, 1926, submitted the following report, which upon motion was approved and ordered spread upon the minutes:-

To the Chancellor and Board of Regents Of the Smithsonian Institution:-

Upwards of two years ago, the Board of Regents authorized the initiation of a campaign for raising an endowment fund for the Institution, and later gave authority for the employment of Messrs. Tamblyn x Brown to assist in carrying out this campaign.

At the Annual Meeting of the Board on December 9, 1926, the following resolution was adopted:-

RESOLVED; That a committee is hereby created, consisting of the Executive Committee and two other members of the Board to be designated by the Chancellor, to consider the future course of the development of the Institution, and to submit its recommendations to the Board at its next meeting.

Mr. Charles F. Choate,Jr., and Mr. Dwight W. Morrow were designated as members of this Special Committee.

At the meeting of the Board of Regents on February 10, 1927, this Committee made a report of progress in response to the above resolution.  On February 11th, the meeting of prominent citizens invited by the Board of Regents "to advise with reference to the future policy and field of service of the Smithsonian Institution", was duly held and proved most interesting and important.  In view of the presentation then made, the verbatim report of the proceedings, now submitted, is a sufficient and adequate report of your Committee, in so far as the statement of the case
