Invitations to speak at this meeting have been accepted by representatives of the Carnegie Institution, the United States Geological Survey, the National Academy of Sciences, and the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics.

On motion, the arguments made by the Executive Committee were approved. (At this point Dr. Abbot and Dr.Wetmore withdrew from the meeting)

REPORT OF SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON FUTURE POLICY OF THE INSTITUTION.

Mr. Delano presented the report which dealt with several matters of importance, such as -

Filling the vacancies on the Board, caused by the death of Mr. Henry White, and by the death of Mr. Charles F. Choate, Jr;

Filling the vacancy in the Executive Committee and the election of a Chairman of the Committee;

Enlargement of the Permanent Committee;

More frequent meetings of the Board;

Election of a Secretary.

After an extended discussion, resolutions were submitted and adopted as follows:-

Suggesting to the Senate and House members of the Board, the election of Dr. John C. Merriam, of Washington, D.C., as a member of the Board to succeed Mr. Henry White;

Requesting the Chancellor to communicate with the Honorable Charles E. Hughes, of New York, and ascertain whether or not he will accept election as a member of the Board;
    
Electing Mr. Delano as Chairman of the Executive Committee;

Increasing the membership of the Permanent Committee to six, to consist
