MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION HELD FEBRUARY 17, 1928. (POSTPONED FROM FEBRUARY 9, 1928)

HOUR OF MEETING.

The Board met at the Institution at 10 o'clock A.M. The Secretary explained that at the request of the Chancellor and Senator Smoot, this meeting had been postponed from the second Thursday in February, the date fixed by resolution of the Board.

PRESENT:

The Hon. Charles G. Dawes, Vice President of the United States, in the chair;
Senator Reed Smoot;
Senator Woodbridge N. Ferris;
Senator Joseph T. Robinson;
Representative Albert Johnson;
Representative Walter H. Newton;
Mr. Frederic A. Delano;
Mr. Irwin B. Laughlin;
Dr. John C. Merriam;  and
The Secretary, Dr. Charles G. Abbot.
Dr. Alexander Wetmore, Assistant Secretary, was also present.

NON-ATTENDANCE.

The Secretary stated that the Chancellor, Chief Justice Taft, was prevented from attending by important engagements, and that owing to absence from the country, Messrs. Robert S. Brookings, Dwight W. Morrow, and Charles
