MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION
HELD MARCH 15, 1928.
AT 10.00 O'CLOCK A.M.

CALL FOR MEETING.

The Secretary stated that this Special Meeting had been called at the request of three members of the Board, as provided in the Fundamental Act.

PRESENT:

Chief Justice William H. Taft, Chancellor, in the chair;
Vice President Charles G. Dawes;
Senator Reed Smoot;
Senator Joseph T. Robinson;
Representative Albert Johnson;
Representative Walter H. Newton;
Mr. Irwin B. Laughlin;
Mr. Charles E. Hughes; and
The Secretary, Dr. Charles G. Abbot.
Assistant Secretary Dr. Alexander Wetmore and Admiral David W. Taylor, U. S. Navy, were present by invitation.

NON-ATTENDANCE.

The Secretary announced that owing to absence from the country, Mr. Dwight W. Morrow, Mr. Robert S. Brookings, and Dr. John C. Merriam were unable to attend; that Senator Ferris could not be present because of illness; and that Mr. Moore and Mr. Delano were absent on account of engagements at this hour.
