The Secretary announced the death, on March 23, 1928, of Senator Woodbridge N. Ferris, A Regent, and stated that in accordance with custom, the flags on the Smithsonian buildings had been placed at half-mast from the notice of death until after the funeral ceremonies. Mr. Moore offered the following resolutions, which were adopted:- WHEREAS; The Board of Regents of the Smithsonian Institution have learned of the death, on March 23, 1928, of the Honorable Woodbridge N. Ferris, United States Senator from Michigan, and a Regent of the Institution for the past three years; RESOLVED; That the Board desire to record here their profound sorrow at the loss sustained by the passing away of this distinguished scholar and statesman and their colleague, whose deep interest in the Institution made him a valued member of this Board; RESOLVED; That this resolution be conveyed by the Secretary to the family of Senator Ferris, with an expression of the Board's sincere sympathy in this hour of their bereavement. APPOINTMENT OF REGENT. The Secretary announced that on March 28, 1928, the Vice President of the United States had appointed the Honorable Claude A. Swanson, United States Senator from Virginia, as a Regent of the Institution to succeed Senator Ferris. MINUTES OF MARCH 15th MEETING. The Secretary reported that these minutes had been supplied to the Regents in typewritten form, and had received the approval of a majority. In the absence of objection, the Chancellor declared the minutes approved. ACKNOWLEDGMENT.
