In a number of offices the curator is now required to do all this alone and unassisted. At present the library is not properly organized for efficient administration. The additional employees are required for proper handling of its work which with the present for is far behind. Additional Guards: 3 Sergeants CU 5 at $1500.... 4,500 10 Guards CU 3 at $1140.... 11,400 There are now no sergeants on the force so that when a lieutenant is absent a private must be put in his place. The indicated arrangement would provide one sergeant for each watch. the present number of guards is inadequate to assist and direct the public ad safeguard our valuable exhibit.
