MINUTES OF MEETING OF FEBRUARY 14, 1929.

The Secretary stated that the minutes of the Regular Meeting held February 14, had been sent in typewritten form to the Regents, and that after certain modifications as suggested by members of the Board, had been placed in permanent record.

On motion, the minutes were approved.

SPECIAL REPORT OF THE SECRETARY.

[[underlined]] Smithsonian Scientific Series [[/underlined]].

The Secretary reported on the progress made in issuing the volumes of the Smithsonian Scientific Series, exhibiting copies of the first four volumes of the James Smithson Memorial Edition, and stating that the publishers were presenting a complete set of this edition to the Institution.

Expressions of satisfaction at the interesting contents and pleasing appearance of these books were made.

[[underlined]] Recommendation for award of the Langley Gold Medal to Charles M. Manly [[/underlined]].

The Secretary said:

Mr. Chancellor:

I hold in my hand the recommendation of Mr. Herbert Friedenwald that the Langley Gold Medal for Aerodromics should be given posthumously to Mr. Charles Matthews Manly, to be represented in the person of his son.

Mr. Friedenwald bases his recommendation on the remarkable statement of Mr. Charles L. Lawrence, President of the Wright Aeronautical Corporation, read before the International Civil Aeronautics Conference held at Washington, December 12 to 14, 1928.

Mr. Lawrence said in part:
