being slightly drawn out and almost two syllabled. These two notes are produced almost simultaneously. The quok is a froglike croak and may be produced by air expelled from sac as when this call is given the cucullaris apparently contracts as the skin of side of neck moves as head is extended. The second reedy note resembles the call of the male gadwall in timbre & may be produced by the syrinx. In producing the clicking note the bird strikes the tip of the bill at one side [[strikethrough]] and (not [[/strikethrough]] directly over the trachea) so as to hit the side of the sac. As the bird jerks the bill on producing the clicking note the tail already pointing up at an angle of 80° is brought forward to about 60° so that the tip comes within 1 1/2-2 inches of the crown. When the last double note is given and the head is jerked forward the tail is thrown back again to about 75° or 80°. Crest is raised as double note is given.
