climb to 200 feet.  Then I turned back and made the airport.

"On one of the coldest days of the winter, my right eye became frost bitten as I came down for a landing in a series of spirals from 3000 feet.  I could only see with my left eye.  The ship came down onto the airport, but the landing was not exactly gentle.

"Flying is the nicest and quickest way to travel.  I prefer it to driving a car, because handling a plane is not only easier but much more pleasurable."

Miss Davis was born in Flat Woods, W. Va., in 1898. She attended West Virginia University.

She soloed after 12 hours of dual.  She has 12 solo hours to her credit now and is ready to take tests for a pilot license.  She has flown some 40 hours.

"I have had a few thrills flying.  My motor once died at an altitude of 200 feet above East Boston.  There were many planes in the air, but having a dead stick I had the right of way.  I glided in beneath the other ships and just made the edge of the field.

"Another time the motor cut out when I was circling low over Wood Island.  I couldn't make the field and headed for mud flats on the other side of the Narrow Gauge tracks.  The ship was 15 feet above the mud when the motor picked up, enabling me to return to the airport.

"On a takeoff the motor once started to skip as soon as the ship got off the ground.  I had 15 feet of altitude.  I continued across the harbor without being able to gain any height.  I had almost reached the other side of the harbor when the motor picked up enough for me to
